In doing so, I am reminded to pray again for the many previous requests. So many, many heartbreaks.
This world truly is "a vale of sorrows."
Thank God...
this is not the end.
this is not all there is.
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not put it out.
Thank God...
there are treasures in darkness.
there is sorrow, but joy comes in the morning.
there is weeping, but there will be laughter.
Thank God...
that He carries us when we cannot stand,
and we can hold each others hands
and pray.

This is such a fantastic and very TRUE post. One of the things about Katherine's story that I hope people take to heart is that the insurance company might say, "Nope, you're done. No point in paying for more." But that does not mean that you should stop. Insurance companies don't dictate your health care choices, you do. If you cede responsibility to a bunch of actuaries who are only concerned with bean counting, you have given up on your own future.
Yes, I understand that economics limit our choices. But too many of us consider either self-pay or plain old SELF to not be an option.
I cannot tell you the number of times I have had either a physician or an office administrator look at me in shock when I asked what else was available.
"But your insurance doesn't cover it."
"I didn't ask you if my insurance covered it. I asked what else was available. You can tell me or I can go home and dig it up myself. But it's my job to decide if I want or can afford to pay for it, not yours."
Seriously. Complete shock.
Also, so happy to see Katherine meet Mark Gifford! She was the first thing I thought about when the whole awful mess went down.
